Robert Thomason, 78, Orofino
     Retired Maj. Robert E. (Bob) Thomason, 78, of Orofino, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino.
     Bob was born Jan. 18, 1933, to June Claude and Elizabeth (Clift) Thomason in Memphis, Tenn.
     He attended Memphis Technical High School, graduating in 1951. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from Officers Candidate School in 1959, retiring in 1973. After retirement, he opened Lake and Lawn, a boat and motor business, retiring in 1992.
     He married in 1956 and later divorced. He re-married in Orofino in 1965.
     Bob was a life member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association and the winner of many trapshooting awards over the years. He was also an endowment member of the National Rifle Association, life member of the Orofino-Pierce Gun Club, served on the board of directors of the Orofino Golf and Country Club from 1974-98, and was club champion in 1976. He was also a past member of the Lewiston Country Club.
     Bob is survived by his wife; one brother; one sister; four children; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Brandon Titus.
     A memorial for family and friends to celebrate the life of Bob Thomason will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Ponderosa Restaurant in Orofino.
     A military graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Idaho Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Pine Hills Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Orofino is in care of arrangements.
     In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Orofino Golf and Country Club or the Orofino-Pierce Gun Club, two of Bob's favorite pastimes.
