Raymond (Ray) George Scoles, 89, Orofino
     Raymond (Ray) George Scoles passed peacefully surrounded by his family, Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012. Ray was born in Winchester Feb. 13, 1923, the oldest son and second oldest of seven children born to Earl and Rosanna Scoles.
     After graduating from Orofino High School, Ray served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Following his return to Orofino he worked as an apprentice baker at The Bakery, where he was smitten with a young lady, who later became his bride of 64 years.
     Ray worked a variety of jobs before launching a 31-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, starting as a clerk and retiring as postmaster. His dedication to family was apparent in that he worked two jobs for many years. You could see him at the post office during the day and cleaning the Ponderosa every evening. His strong work ethic and care for his customers guided him to work weekends during the holidays to make sure everyone received their packages.
     Ray is survived by his wife; two sisters; four sons; one daughter; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister AnnaMae; and brothers Weston, Bob and Jerry.
     Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Pine Hills Funeral Chapel, 939 Michigan Ave., Orofino. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens, Seventh and Cedar, Lewiston.
     Pine Hills Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Orofino is in care of arrangements.
