Mabel Irene Rubedew, 91, native of Weippe
BONNERS FERRY – Mabel Irene Rubedew, who was born and raised in Weippe and later taught near there, died July 9 of causes related to age at the Boundary Community Nursing Home here. She was 91.
     She was born April 16, 1905, in Weippe to William and Sarah Simmons. She went to school in Weippe and later attended Lewiston Normal School and Eastern Washington University.
     She married George E. Rubedew in Lewiston June 6, 1928, and taught for several years at the Fraser School House near Weippe. She later taught in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. She retired in 1970 after teaching for 39 years. She taught special education the last 12 years of her career.
     In 1986 she and her husband moved to Four Lakes, Wash., where her husband died. In 1989 she moved to Moyie Springs, Idaho.
     She enjoyed raising African violets and tropical fish. She also spent many hours knitting.
     She is survived by two daughters, Mildred I. Pankratz of Salem, Ore., and Ellen Tedrow of Moyie Springs; a brother, Howard Simmons of Spokane; and nine grandchildren.
     A private family service will be conducted in the Weippe Cemetery. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
