Robert J. Hohnstein, 79, Lewiston
     Robert Jett Hohnstein passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at Life Care Center in Lewiston, of renal failure. He was 79. He was born at the family home in Elk Creek, Clearwater County, March 23, 1932, to Fredrick and Daisy May Laws. He was adopted as a child by Henry Hohnstein after his father’s death.
     He was raised in Cardiff Spur and attended school in Pierce.
     Robert married June Ellen Knapton Feb. 19, 1951, in Lewiston. They made their family home in Cardiff Spur and Shared 36 years together, having six children. June passed away in February 1987.
     He re-married in December 1987 and they continued to live in Cardiff until moving to Lewiston. He worked for Potlatch mill in Headquarters as a loader operator for 41 years until his retirement.
     Robert was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Pierce. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. After retirement he enjoyed buying, restoring and selling items at his yard sales. He liked riding his Schwinn motor scooter around Lewiston, and looked forward to visits with his family and friends.
     Surviving are his wife of Lewiston; a son and wife of Portland, Ore.; a son and wife of Lewiston; a daughter and husband of Orofino; a daughter and husband of Waitsburg, Wash.; a son of Clarkston; a daughter and husband of Post Falls, Idaho; nine grandchildren; a sister-in-law of Thompson Falls, Mont.; and a brother-in-law and wife of Stites.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; wife June; three brothers, Doyle Laws, Wes Laws and John Laws; and a sister, Esther Wilson.
     Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston. His graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pierce Cemetery. The services will be followed by a lunch and all those attending are invited to share.
