Hazel M. Bennett, 81, Lewiston
Hazel Mildred (Millie) Bennett passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, due to complications of pneumonia. Millie would have liked the thought that she went out with a bang.
She was born March 6, 1929 to Druard and Lena Allen in Allenton, Iowa. She spent her childhood in Weippe, where she met Bob Bennett. They were married March 8, 1952, in Richland.
Millie tried her hand at many occupations, including cooking in logging camps, telephone operator and dental technician, but most remember her working beside Bob cutting and wrapping meat together. Millie was also a caregiver to all.
She was member of Rebekah Lodge, the Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of Eagles.
She loved entertaining, cooking, bowling and dancing until the wee hours. Millie never lost her sense of dry humor, declaring that her diminutive stature left her gazing at belt buckles most of her life.
She was preceded in death by Bob, her husband of 57 years; her father and mother; and a number of nephews and nieces.
Survivors include a sister, a very special sister-in-law, a dear foster daughter and friend, a special niece and nephews, plus several great-nieces and nephews. The couple were not blessed with children of their own.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston.
The family suggests memorials be made to the animal shelter or the cancer society.
