Mary Ellen Starkey

May 25, 1933 - Feb. 9, 2012

Mary passed into the loving arms of Jesus Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012.
Mary was born May 25, 1933, to James Monroe and May Fern Crutcher in Orofino. She graduated high school in Orofino and later attended college in Spokane and in Arkansas. She married Charles Starkey in 1953, who preceded her in death in December of 2000. Mary taught school in Arkansas and later at Clearwater Valley in Kooskia, retiring after 20 years of teaching. She especially loved teaching second grade in Kooskia, which gave her many fond memories of students she loved. She loved playing softball, volleyball and any other outdoor recreations. She would always be good for doing a prank or poke, so you had to keep a close eye on her.
Mary moved to Lake Havasu, Ariz., to be with her daughter in 2007 because of health issues.
She is survived by her daughter; son; and five grandsons. She also has four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be at noon next Saturday at the Lapwai Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lapwai Presbyterian Church or the local food bank.
Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at cperrys@yahoo.com. Arrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
