Michael D. Snyder, 55, Lewiston truck driver
Michael Dow Snyder, a Lewiston truck driver, died of cancer Sunday at Lewiston Rehabilitation and Care Center. He was 55.
He was born Feb. 9, 1943, to Frederick and June Gleason Snyder in Orofino. He attended schools at Banner, Grangemont and Orofino.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in April 1960. He served on the East Coast and was discharged in May 1962.
He married Vicky Kaufman and they later divorced.
A marriage to Patty Paulsen also ended in divorce.
He drove a gas truck for Jim Beeson and then worked for a time for Boeing in Seattle. Later he returned to the Orofino area where he worked as an edger at the Old Mill near Orofino. He also drove a logging truck out of Pierce for Potlatch Forests Inc.
His love of western style music led him to learn to play the guitar. He later played at different clubs with a band and then learned to play the banjo, fiddle and bass guitar. He played lead and rhythm guitar.
He married Judy Mabe Sept. 16, 1991, at Coeur d' Alene.
She survives him at their Lewiston home.
After meeting his wife they drove long haul in an 18-wheeler. He also hauled grain from Montana.
He enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting, and especially liked to play with his dog.
In additon to his wife, his survivors include four daughters, Beverly Blue of Virginia, Brenda Plilley of Victor, Mont., Stacy Williams of Clarkston and Cheridee Snyder of Pasco; a son, Kirk Olmstead of Lewiston; a stepdaughter, Kelly McCormick of Clarkston; his mother of Orofino; two sisters, Carol Crawford of Dundee, Ore., and Paula Lougee of Orofino; 13 grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roderick (Rick) Snyder.
Cremation will take place and service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
